Anet Muir is a Chief Director for Water Use Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement in the Department of Water and Sanitation. She obtained a MSc in Environmental Management from the University of Johannesburg in 2001 and in 2013 she completed her LLB degree at the University of South Africa. She has 22-years’ experience in the water sector and is a designated EMI Grade 1. She obtained her early training as a scientist at the Department focussing on water use authorisations.
She has experience in water services, dam safety, economic regulation, water use authorisations, compliance and enforcement. She further has environmental impact management of large infrastructure development knowledge and experience. In 2021 Ms Muir was appointed in her current posts where she leads a team focussing on regulation (water services and water resource), compliance and enforcement. She is currently involved in the water services sector reform to improve the performance of water service provision.
Daniel Silke is a Political Economy Analyst and is Director of the Political Futures Consultancy based in Cape Town. He is a former City Councillor in the City of Cape Town and Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Silke holds a Master’s Degree in South African and International Politics, is the author of the book, Tracking the Future: Top Trends to Shape South Africa & the World and currently consults widely to a range of blue-chip companies both in South Africa and globally. Silke writes regularly for News24 and Fin24 and his analysis may be found on a wide range of domestic and international media including CNBC, Reuters, AFP, Bloomberg, ENCA and Newzroom Afrika.
Dawie Roodt is a founder, Director and Chief Economist of the Efficient Group. He serves on a variety of investment committees within the Efficient Group. Dawie’s latest role is that of Chairmen of Efficient Private Clients, of which Efficient Group is the majority shareholder.
Dawie is a nationally renowned economist, with over 30 years’ experience. He is closely involved with the management of client asset portfolios. His interest in international and local politics has grown and he has become knowledgeable in the field of politics as well. Dawie is ranked the most referenced economists in the country and received the prestigious Economist of the year award by Sake 24, a media house. He has been the anchor presenter of the television program Ontbytsake for the past 20 years.
Duma is a financial journalist, analyst, researcher and advisor with over two decades of experience.
Educated at Waterford Kamhlaba School in Eswatini and Aberdeen University in Scotland, where he studied economics, he has worked for leading publications and organisations such as the Black Economic Empowerment Commission and NEPAD secretariat. He served as a member of the COSATU Panel of Progressive Economists and was a board member of Naledi, the COSATU think-tank.
He co-authored the landmark BEE Commission report in 2002, which paved the way for current BEE laws and policies. In 2022, he earned a Spearhead Award from the BEE Commission for his work in this area. A heterodox economist and advocate for Universal Basic Income and a job guarantee, Duma is a research associate at the Social Policy Initiative, a Business Day columnist, public speaker, and commentator on economic development issues.
Fred Platt is a distinguished professional with over 30 years of experience in the corporate sector, including 20 years in C-Suite positions and as CEO of a publicly listed company on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange . With a robust background in business development, project management, and strategic planning, Fred has excelled in leading teams to achieve their objectives, with a particular emphasis on the water industry.
Currently serving as the Executive Chairman at Nexus Water Alchemy (Pty) Ltd, a specialized advisory firm that tackles intricate challenges at the nexus of water, waste, and energy.
Nexus focuses on the three essential spheres of engineering required for sustainable infrastructure projects: Hard Engineering (Technology), Financial Engineering (Bankability), and Stakeholder Engineering (Compliance and Acceptance).
Nexus has prioritized addressing the often overlooked areas of financial engineering and stakeholder engagement by leveraging cutting-edge digital technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, and Blockchain. This has resulted in the establishment of Water Ledger Global, a pioneering entity in tokenizing water to ensure transparency, accountability, and immutability, with groundbreaking projects in New South Wales (Australia) and Utah (USA). Fred also serves as the Executive Chair of Water Ledger Global based in Ireland.
Fred earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Business Administration from Brunel University (UK). He currently holds the position of Chair at the South African Water Chamber and is actively involved in various advisory roles. Fred is deeply passionate about the sustainable development of the water, waste, and energy sectors and their potential for transformative impact within the Southern African context.
Isaah Mhlanga is the Chief Economist and Head of Global Markets Research and member of Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Global Markets Exco. He leads a team of economists, analysts and strategists covering macroeconomics, fixed income, currencies, commodities and credit across South Africa and several key African countries to serve the bank and its institutional and corporate clients. He drives research client strategy in collaboration with sales, trading and the broader teams within RMB. Prior to this, Isaah was the Executive Chief Economist at Alexforbes, a member of Alexforbes Investments Exco, the Asset Allocation and Investment Committees.
He has prior experience as a macroeconomist at Absa Capital, senior economist at the National Treasury, having started his career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund local office in Pretoria. His passion for education has seen him lecture undergraduate mathematical and financial economics at the University of Johannesburg in the past, and currently serves as a Trustee of Study Trust and non-executive board member of Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, both of which are entities that contribute in the development of critical skills among previously disadvantaged communities. He is a Fellow of the GIBS Center for Africa Management and Markets and Economic Research of Southern Africa, as well as a regular columnist for major local business publications.
Jeremy Maggs is a media specialist with forty years’ experience in television, radio, and print. He currently presents Moneyweb@Midday, a fast paced live online daily current affairs show as well as Hot Business with Moneyweb on Hot 102.7 weeknights.
He was editor-in-chief and senior anchor on the news channel eNCA before stepping down to start his own media strategy, reputation management and content consultancy
He also wrote for the authoritative Financial Mail on the advertising industry for 20 years
He is the presenter of the Bookmark nominated Investec fortnightly podcast on Investec Focus Radio – No Ordinary Wednesday; and the Moneyweb podcast called Fix SA.
Kgomotso Lekola, BSc, Dip Data AI, MBA, is the Founder and Group Managing Director of BT Industrial Group, a multisector science and engineering company. Recognised globally as an innovator, Kgomotso is a multi-award-winning businessman with a 24-year career as a senior executive and CEO, holding key roles in companies like MTN and Mutual & Federal.
In 2017, Kgomotso founded BT Industrial Group, which has pioneered a range of technologies and holds 38 patents and trademarks. Serving a global customer base across Africa, the EU, and the Americas, the company has achieved significant growth without acquisitions.
BT Industrial has innovated in manufacturing piping for water conveyance in mining, industry, agriculture, and human consumption, addressing Africa’s growing water demands. Additionally, BT Industrial is a key player in modular water treatment solutions for the property sector. In the medical field, the company has developed, patented, and introduced groundbreaking products. Kgomotso’s contributions have twice earned him recognition from President Cyril Ramaphosa for his commitment to growth and industrialisation in South Africa and Africa.
Kgomotso supports township orphanages and other charitable causes, serves on various boards and frequently speaks at international events, including state visits, IMF and World Bank meetings, and UN COP conferences. His visionary leadership continues to drive advancements across multiple sectors.
Lizanne started her career in statutory planning before moving into development economics at Urban-Econ and is currently the Manager of the Property Development Services Unit. Lizanne completed her undergraduate degree in Town and Regional Planning at the University of Pretoria and has taken courses from UCT to help her continuously better herself and her knowledge of the property sphere.
Lizanne’s work and experience has led her to develop a unique set of skills in town planning and property development. She is a professionally registered Planner with SACPLAN and has been involved in various interesting projects, for SAPOA and a number of well-known developers and institutions, conducting research on the following topics, to name a few:
Nozipho Mbanjwa-Tshabalala is the CEO of the Conversation Strategists, where she moderates global conversations that are designed to have measurable outcomes. She is known as the go-to moderator for presidential and high-level panel conversations globally.
She has moderated conversations for global bodies including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the
International Labour Organisation, the United Nations, the African Union, governments and multinationals around the world.
With an academic and practice background spanning Economics, Politics and Policy, Development, Business and
Strategy, and Social Economics, she is in demand for her unique and insightful ability to facilitate complex conversations with simplicity, depth and breadth.
Her prior work experience has included serving in The Presidency in South Africa, Umlambo Foundation, Tata Africa, and as an award-winning journalist at CNBC Africa.

In 2019 she was named as one the Top 100 Most Influential Young Africans and one of the Top 100 Most Influential South Africans.
Thuli’s current professional role is that of Senior Manager looking after the Indirectly Held Property Investments within the Unlisted Properties Division of the Public Investment Corporation (PIC). She has more than 14 years’ worth of experience within the property industry, and has held various different positions in this time. She also manages the PIC’s Direct Property Investments portfolio in an acting capacity as Senior Manager.
Significant aspects of her roles include the development and implementation of investment strategies that unlock value for clients to ensure the achievement of optimum returns on investments, and the effective structuring and execution of debt and equity finance transactions with specific emphasis on commercial property, as well portfolio management.
Thuli’s education background is in Financial Management and Financial Information Systems, her qualifications were obtained from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and University of South Africa, respectively. She has completed a Post Graduate Diploma through the Gordon Institute of Business Science and is currently pursuing the completion of an MBA programme with the same institution
Thuli holds directorate roles in two well-established unlisted commercial property companies. She is the National Chairperson of the Women’s Property Network, the organisation’s objective is to contribute positively towards diversity and inclusion of women at all levels of participation within the Property Sector.
